2008 Ten-Minute Play Festival Submission Guidelines

2009 Guidelines to be announced

 

The Festival is a series of ten-minute plays, submitted by playwrights who MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE, and performed by local artists scheduled at Players Theatre on March 16th of 2008.

 

There will be two performances, at 2:00 and 7:00 PM, on Sunday, March 16th. The first performance will be adjudicated and followed by the adjudicator’s general remarks. The final performance will be followed by the announcement of the winner for the Best Play, an honor that includes a cash award (to be determined at the time of play selection – last year’s award was $150). Eligible playwrights must be residents of the Gulf Coast Region of Florida. Plays will be performed by local actors chosen by the Festival hosts, and requirements for set, props, costumes, and lighting should be minimal.

 

Plays

Plays should be able to be presented in ten minutes (within a one-minute variance) and cast size should not exceed five actors (actors may portray multiple roles within a play).

 

The Process

1. Plays improperly submitted (see Submission Requirements below) must be discarded.

 

2. Properly submitted plays will be marked with a number for cross-reference to the playwright’s name and contact information.

 

3. The cover letter will then be separated from the play copies.

 

4. Three readers will review all works (reviewed anonymously) and multiple plays will be selected as finalists for presentation at the festival.

 

5. Selected plays will be announced by the second week of January 2008.

 

6. Actors will be selected through an audition process determined by Theater Odyssey (some actors may be used for more than one play) and rehearsed in the roles by the director selected by Theatre Odyssey.

 

Submission Requirements

In determining our submission requirements, we’ve attempted to focus on providing all submitters an equal chance. The three readers (who will NOT also be judges) will base their selection solely on the given criteria. The fee schedule encourages the submission of one play – it's FREE – but discourages multiple submissions by charging a fee.  However, all plays will be given equal consideration.

 

· Cover letter including the playwright’s name and contact information

· 3 ANONYMOUS copies of each play submitted (plays displaying the author’s name must be discarded)

· No more than three plays may be submitted

· Submission Fees:

o One Submission:      No Fee

o Two Submissions:   $15 Fee

o Three Submissions: $30 Fee

· Deadline:  Entries must be received by December 31, 2007 to be considered.

· Playwrights must attend the event.

We’re sorry, but plays not selected cannot be returned. For the playwright’s peace of mind, non-selected plays will be shredded and discarded.
