Theatre Odyssey is pleased to announce that eight plays have been selected to be performed at its 2013 Ten-Minute Play Festival. In addition, Elliott Raines has been named the Artistic Director. Season sponsors have also been confirmed as Scene Magazine, Gerri Aaron and Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
The eight plays, four comedies and four dramas, were chosen from among 51 entries. This year’s Festival will be held March 29-31 at Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe’s theater, 1646 10th Way in Sarasota. Performances will be Friday & Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm with Saturday & Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $15, with a student price of $5 at the door.
Also added this year will be a performance of the winner of Theatre Odyssey’s first annual Student Ten-Minute Play Festival, which will be announced at a performance of four high school student written plays on January 25.
“We are very excited about the 2013 Ten-Minute Play Festival,” remarked Catherine Randazzo, Theatre Odyssey’s board president. “There are a great variety of funny and dramatic plays to appeal to all different theater goers. Also this year’s addition of the student written play adds another level of community involvement for our organization. The student competition was open to all area high schools. We received some very well written submissions and hope to grow the participation every year. Honoring the student with a second production is part of their award.”
The list of plays and playwrights selected for the 2013 Ten-Minute Play Festival are Excursions by Brandon Cohela, Reservations by Dylan Jones, War Hero by Julian Olf, White Castles by Mike Phelan, They’re Gonna Kill Gertie by Connie Schindewolf, Leaving Nic by Connie Schindewolf, A Little Help by Bernie Yanelli and Little Miss Ice Cream Cone by Bernie Yanelli.
